As a region, the Triangle area is undoubtedly on the move. Regional population
growth continues to outpace most other areas of the nation, with the
Raleigh-Cary-Garner metropolitan area being the fastest-growing urban region in
the South.
- According to 2010 Census data, the Raleigh-Cary-Garner metropolitan area has an estimated population of 1,130,490, an increase of 42 percent since 2000.
- The entire Triangle area – including Durham and Chapel Hill – has a combined estimated population of 1,749,525, according to 2010 Census data.
- The Triangle is now the 28th-largest metropolitan region in the United States and has grown by 33 percent since 2000.

25,921 residents. The demographic data below for Garner were provided by the
Census Bureau’s 2008-2010 American Community Survey Three-Year Estimates. The
data (where applicable) for Raleigh and Wake County were provided by 2007-09
American Community Survey Three-Year Estimates.

Employment and Labor Force
Find the right people for the job in Garner. In the last two decades, Garner has
experienced tremendous economic opportunities, thanks in large part to strong
educational resources and a steady supply of talent.
Garner's available labor pool is made up of numerous components. Our workforce
is consistently fueled by new talent. Each year, a dozen area colleges and
universities flood the local labor market with approximately 100,000 new
graduates. Forty-seven percent of area residents 25 years of age or older have
at least a bachelor's degree.
North Carolina is one of 22 states with a “right-to-work” law. Closed shop and
union shop agreements are illegal and void. North Carolina’s union membership
rate is among the lowest in the nation.

2010 Census and the American Community Survey
The U.S. Constitution-mandated census is conducted every 10 years. In 2010
everyone received the “short form” questionnaire. This only included the
following topics: age, gender, Hispanic origin, race, relationship, and
occupancy status. This data is static and will not be updated until 2020.
Other topics for Garner not covered in the 2010 Census relating to social,
economic, and housing characteristics will be released in the American Community
Survey (ACS) which is an ongoing survey that provides data every year. Garner’s
ACS data will be released as 3-Year Estimates.
